SPAIN | Fraternity in Spain Receives Profession of Two Priests, Admits another Member
Unlike in the previous years, the members of the priestly fraternity in Spain have been prevented by the current pandemic from coming together and celebrating fraternal meetings in the pleasure of each other's physical presence. Nevertheless, it has not diminished their zeal to continue the life of the fraternity, as proven by the profession of two priests, as well as the admission of another member on December 3, 2020.
The rituals were held in Madrid in the company of the Dominican Nuns at the Convent of Santo Domingo el Real, which was founded in 1218 by St. Dominic himself, the same place where the baptismal font of the Order's founder is now preserved. It was presided over by the Prior of the Fraternity, Fr. Carmelo Lara Ginés, with the assistance of the Provincial Promoter, fr. Francisco Fassio, OP. Joining the celebration were several members of the fraternity as well as a few laypeople who were able to travel and be present for the occasion.
Making their solemn promises to the fraternities were Fr. José Ángel Ruíz Morán of the Diocese of León, and Fr. Javier Marquínez Marquínez of the Diocese of Terrassa. Born on March 13, 1971, Fr. José Ángel was ordained a priest on April 12, 1998. Fr. Javier Marquínez Marquínez, on the other hand, was born on March 17, 1965, and received ordination to the priesthood on November 14, 2010. Both of them were received in the fraternity on December 11, 2018, at the Convent of Our Lady of the Rosary in Madrid, and were later on admitted into the novitiate program of the fraternities on September 10, 2019, at the Monasterio de Santo Domingo in Guipúzcoa.
On the same occasion, Fr. Joan Ferrero Mora, also of the Diocese of Terrassa, commenced his novitiate formation with the rite of vesting with the Dominican habit. Born on September 4, 1984, he was ordained a priest on October 28, 2012. Before the rite of vestition, he completed the period of trial and mutual knowledge, which he began with the fraternity on December 4, 2019.
The Prior recalled the gift that the emergence of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Dominic in Spain represents for the Church and the Order of Preachers. He appreciated how the Lord has been leading the steps of each of the priests who, freely and from an attentive listening of God's will on their life, adhere to the apostolic mission began by St. Dominic de Guzman. He also recalled that it is a commitment with God and with the Church to live the charism of preaching, which is a way of life to be better priests in the Church and for the reign of the Kingdom of God. He also emphasized that this gift of grace requires constant updating since fraternity is built from personal and community relationships, as well as from a shared mission. He emphasized that the members of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Dominic truly and effectively belong to the Order of Preachers and contribute, from their particular vocation, the diocesan nature of being Church, where preaching becomes a daily service to the People of God.
At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, everyone present went in procession to the baptismal font of Saint Dominic, singing the Salve Regina and the O Spem Miram. Despite its brevity, the gathering was very joyful and hopeful. Everyone thanked the nuns for their warm welcome and accompaniment. Without a doubt, they are for the priests of the Fraternity true sisters and friends.
