PHILIPPINES | Member of Dominican Priestly Fraternities to be made a Cardinal



Towards the end of the Sunday Angelus address of Pope Francis on 25 October 2020 at the St. Peter’s Square in Rome, he announced a new Consistory for 28 November 2020 on the eve of the first Sunday of Advent. Among the 13 future cardinals to be created in such consistory is Most. Rev. Jose Fuerte Advincula, Archbishop of Capiz, from the Philippines.

Born on March 30, 1952, in Dumalag, Capiz, Abp. Advincula was ordained a priest on April 4, 1976, and then a bishop on September 8, 2001. He was appointed Archbishop of Capiz by then Pope Benedict XVI on Nov. 9, 2011.

He completed his Theology studies at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila. He likewise undertook studies in canon law both at UST in Manila and at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas - Angelicum in Rome, obtaining a Licentiate in Canon Law.

During his seminary days in Manila, he was a resident of the UST Central Seminary, where he joined the Dominican Family through the Third Order, now Priestly Fraternities of St. Dominic.
