Members of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Dominic in the Dioceses of Malolos (Bulacan), Balanga (Bataan), Cabanatuan (Nueva Ecija) and Iba (Zambales) convened together to celebrate the feast day of the patron of their newly established chapter, St. Martin de Porres. Bishop of Malolos, Most Rev. Dennis C. Villarojo, welcomed them into his official residence in Malolos City, Bulacan, and presided over the Holy Eucharist with the members concelebrating.

In his homily, the bishop emphasized the need for asceticism among priests, following the example of the mystics and St. Martin de Porres. He said, “Don’t spoil your taste with junk food lest you won’t enjoy the real food... St. Martin’s example of humility and asceticism shames us. His emptiness allowed him to experience the kingdom of God in its fullness.” He also pointed out the need for continuous learning and reflection on the Word of God for “fine-tuning” of our taste for the Kingdom of Heaven. To this end, he says, the Dominican charism could be of help to the Diocesan Clergy.

After the Holy Mass, the Chapter held a meeting with its prior, Fr. Garry Toribio, presiding and Fr. Arden Xerxes Dacuma, O.P., Assistant Provincial Promoter, as guest lecturer. Fr. Arden discussed some matters about the Directory of the Priestly Fraternities. Fraternal gatherings ahead were also planned and the next admission and profession of members were also scheduled.

The gathering concluded with a lunch together with Bishop Villarojo.

Fr. Joseph Franz Dizon (Diocese of Malolos)
