ITALY | Regular Meeting of the Priests
Updated: Jun 29, 2019
Secular priests of St. Dominic came together on 27 May 2019 for their regular meeting at the Convent of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Rome. As customarily practiced, they began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, which was presided for the first time by a new addition to the group, Don Alessandro Caserio, who was recently ordained by Pope Francis last May 12.
The gathering proceeded as usual, with common study among the priests, celebration of the liturgy of the Hours with the friars, and fraternal sharing of lunch with the whole community. Don Alexander de Leon facilitated a lively presentation and discussion on the topic of "Demons" in the Quaestiones Disputatae De Malo of St. Thomas Aquinas, a topic that was motivated by his current involvement in the ministry of exorcism. Don Alex was appointed last year among the very small group of priests deputized by the Cardinal Vicar to welcome, discern, spiritually accompany, and eventually authorize access to the exorcists for those presumed to be victims of extraordinary demonic activity. It is worth noting that around half a million persons seek help from Catholic exorcists each year in Italy.
