ITALY | Friars in Siena Receive New Members in the Priestly Fraternities

Celebrating its eight hundredth anniversary of foundation this year, the convent of San Domenico in Siena marked such a historic achievement by welcoming priests of the Archdiocese of Siena in the Dominican family. On separate occasions, Mons. Benedetto Rossi and Fr. Roberto Bianchini were admitted in the Priestly Fraternities of St. Dominic by the Conventual Prior, Brother Alfredo Scarciglia, OP.

Admitted on the day itself of the foundation, Mons. Benedetto was received in a rite of admission in the afternoon of 16 February 2021 at the choir chapel of the Basilica Cateriniana di San Domenico. Joining the friars of the community, a small representation of members of the Dominican family was present to witness the event. Born on 15 March 1955 in Castelnuovo Berardenga (SI), Mons. Benedetto was ordained on 16 June 1979. He currently serves as Rector of the Santuario Santa Caterina in the City of Siena. He is likewise a professor in Sacred Scriptures.

On 24 May 2021, as the Catholic Church celebrates the memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, and the Dominican Order celebrates the memorial of the Translation of St. Dominic, the rite of admission of Fr. Roberto was held during the evening prayers of the friars' community in the chapel of the sacristy.

Born on 19 May 1967, Don Roberto Bianchini was ordained a priest on 28 June 2003. Among his current works in the diocese are as follows: Member of the College of Consultors; Parish priest of San Martino; Parish priest of San Maurizio in Santo Spirito (Siena); Rector of the University Chapel; Episcopal Vicar Foraneo Siena; Councilor of the Clergy Support Institute; Rector of the Church of San Cristoforo; Member of the Episcopal Council; Responsible for Culture, University, School and I.R.C. in schools; Editor of Compagnia dei Santi Emidio e Andrea Avellino; and member by right of the presbyteral council.
