PHILIPPINES | Inauguration of fraternity of seminarians at the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary

Updated: Jun 14, 2019

Rite of admission of the pioneer members of the seminarians' fraternity of ICMAS

In the Province, seminarians are not given definitive membership in the priestly fraternities, but they are invited to take part in the mission and spirituality of the Order in their unique context as future members of the diocesan clergy. As indicated in the Local Directory of the fraternities, those who are undergoing formation for the priesthood may be admitted in the Seminarians' Fraternities of St. Dominic in the Philippines. Hence, a chapter for seminarians can be organized in a diocesan seminary with the consent of its Rector and is to be guided in a stable manner by a friar, or by a professed priest of the fraternities.

The UST Central Seminary stood as the only group for seminarians, that is, until 22 June 2018 when another such fraternity was created in the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary (ICMAS) in Guiguinto, Bulacan, with the consent of its Rector Fr. Emmanuel I. Cruz. Accordingly, a liturgical rite of entry was officiated by the Provincial Promoter, fr. Florentino Bolo Jr., OP, for 18 diocesan seminarians, who were presented with the Dominican cross as a sign of their special commitment in following the spirit of St. Dominic.
